Marchena hoping for Valencia stay

03/03/2010 - Valencia, Spain (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Valencia captain Carlos Marchena is hoping to extend his stay at the Mestalla with a new contract.

The 30-year-old Spain defender has been with the La Liga club since 2001 but is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

Marchena has made more than 250 first-team appearances for Los Che.

"At the end of this season we will analyze the situation together and see if we can find an arrangement," explained agent Manuel Garcia Quilon.

"If it can be, perfect, and if not there will be no problem because we have a great relationship.

"The club is happy with the work of Marchena, he has been a first-team player under all the coaches and we may want to prolong this situation."

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.

Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.

El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year

With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.

Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
